“Low Desert” Routes
The addition of the new San Vicente RR Grade Trail out of downtown Silver city really opened up the dirt road network to the south with minimal contact with busy roads. ie. safer. The climbs often aren’t too big, but the views sure are. While the roads in this region are pretty good, Ridge road south of the Jail can have pretty intense washboards for a while, maxing out your tire clearance here is helpful. Need a tire swap? We’ve got the good stuff in our shop and can always sneak in a bike for a quick tire install. Some samplings of routes in this area are below.
Sunrise Special (shortie): 6.2 mi. 65% paved. easy easy.
Sunrise Special Figure 8: 14 mi. 50% dirt. mostly easy.
Verticality North of Town
Climb up into the hills out of town, and the going gets steeper. The quality of the roads is often better than to the south, but sadly route options are more limited to out-and-backs due to designated Wilderness Areas all around.
