About Gila Hike & Bike
Gila Hike & Bike has been part of Silver City’s outdoor life since 1988, when Jack Brennan and Michael Sauber opened the shop to serve the hikers, cyclists, wanderers, racers, and everyday adventurers who call the Gila home. What started as a local bike and outdoor shop has grown into a downtown hub for good gear, honest repairs, trail knowledge, and friendly advice from people who actually ride, hike, and explore here.
For nearly four decades, the shop has been rooted at the center of Silver City’s cycling and outdoor community. From helping locals keep their bikes rolling to supporting visitors passing through on the CDT, the GDMBR, or a weekend in the Gila, Gila Hike & Bike has always been more than a place to buy gear. It is a place to swap trail reports, ask questions, get pointed in the right direction, and feel a little more prepared for whatever the day has in store.
That community spirit has carried through every chapter of the shop’s history. Longtime owners and staff have helped shape local cycling, supported events like the Tour of the Gila, and given generously to the people and places around them. The shop’s legacy includes beloved owners Martyn Pearson and Alex Olsen, remembered by the community for their warmth, generosity, and commitment to giving back.
Today, Gila Hike & Bike is still Silver City’s adventure nexus: a friendly, knowledgeable, deeply local shop for bike service, rentals, hiking and backpacking gear, and real-world advice for exploring southwest New Mexico. Whether you are rolling out from downtown, heading into the Gila Wilderness, or just trying to make the most of a beautiful afternoon outside, we are glad you are here.
