Paved Routes

Low traffic, wild views, plenty of climbing (if you want it)

Low traffic, wild views, plenty of climbing (if you want it)

Low traffic, wild views, and as much climbing as you're up for. These roads cut through open high-desert country — juniper and grassland stretching to the mountains on every side, without another car in sight for miles. Keep it mellow on the lower loops, or head north into the pines above town for the real climbing.

Shorter Rides

Easy loops close to town, an hour or so out.

Stir n Simmer

19mi+1,328 ftModerate, good shoulder

Go-to locals ride out of town, good climbing and descents. Some traffic, but good shoulder almost all the way to the pass.

Pinos Altos climb, classic

17.2 mi+1,550 ftModerate

Moderate climb, fast descent back to town. Weak shoulder tho.

Ghosts of Mogollon

19.1 mi+2,792 ftDifficult

This is an absolutely classic section of the Tour of the Gila race

Vanadium hangover cure

29.0 mi+2,098 ftChill

Underrated route, constantly rolling.

Shake n Bake to Meadow Creek

32.0 mi+3,018 ftModerate to tough

Some of the best descending around is tucked into the trees between P.A. and Meadow Ck

Longer Rides

Bigger days, serious climbing — plan your water.

Three-way, all the way

52.2 mi+4,781 ftBrutal, classic

This is the longest descent/ascent around. Absolutely stunning!

Inner Loop (oh so classic)

76.9 mi+6,251 ftDifficult

One of the classic road rides in NM. It's got it all.

Lower Mimbres Loopin'

81.3 mi+4,365 ftEasy

Gorgeous cruise through the Lower Mimbres Valley. Suck it up for the return on 180.

Emory Pass

86.7 mi+7,819 ftModerate

Another classic. Start on Hwy 35 in the Mimbres Valley if you want it shorter.

Cliffs Dwelled

90.1 mi+10,170 ftDifficult

No joke, one of the harder routes around but it's amazing, yes unrelenting too.

Gila Monster

113.8 mi+10,841 ftDifficult

Peak road biking. The Tour of the Gila stage that strikes fear in most racers.
