Why We Like It The B17 hasn't changed much in over a century, and that's the point — a hand-formed leather top on steel rails that molds to your exact riding position instead of the other way around. It takes a break-in period; a fresh B17 is stiffer than a foam saddle and needs a few hundred miles (and regular Proofide conditioning) before it really settles in. That's the honest tradeoff. Once it does, it holds its shape to your sit bones specifically, which is a big part of why you see this saddle on so many touring and bikepacking rigs coming through town — riders who've committed to the break-in tend to stay loyal to it for years.
