Enlightened Equipment builds it around synthetic Climashield APEX insulation, so a monsoon squall, a sweaty climb, or a frosty bivy doesn't flatten it the way it would down. FAQ

How does it fit?
Enlightened Equipment cuts the Torrid about a half size roomy to fit over layers. It's a functional, boxy fit rather than a tailored one. If you're between sizes and don't plan to layer much underneath, size down.

Is it warm enough for winter in the Gila?
It's a three-season insulating layer: cold mornings, high camps, shoulder-season nights. For deep winter, yes we use them in the winter as well, but it's hella cold, consider pairing it with one of our TumbleOn Alpha Direct hoodies.

Why synthetic instead of down?
Synthetic keeps insulating when it gets wet, whether that's from a summer storm, a river crossing, or your own sweat on a long climb. Down packs smaller, but it quits when it's soaked.  Also, cleaning a synthetic layer is infinitely simpler than cleaning/drying down.

Why buy it here instead of direct?
