Why We Like It
The Mezcal has been our best-selling GDMBR tire for years running, and it's earned that spot honestly — it's the rare XC tread that rolls fast without feeling like it's made of paper. We now stock all three casing-and-size combos, so instead of grabbing whatever's on the shelf, you can actually match the tire to how you ride the Gila: quick and light on hardpack, or armored up for the rockier doubletrack.

• • •

  • Race casing, 29 x 2.4" — the lightest build in the lineup, honestly still good enough for dirt roads and roll smooooottthhh
  • Trail casing, 27.5 x 2.4" or 29 x 2.4" — a reinforced casing with an anti-puncture belt under the tread, built for the Gila's sharper, chunkier stretches at a modest weight bump over Race.
  • 4C Graphene compound — four tread compounds fortified with Graphene 2.0, so grip doesn't fall off as the rubber wears down.
  • TLR tubeless-ready, folding bead — seats clean on a tubeless setup and folds down small enough to carry as a spare in your frame bag.
  • E-Bike rated (29 x 2.4" Trail) — built to handle the extra torque and weight of a motor-assisted rig without folding under load.

Local Knowledge

Race or Trail casing for the Gila?
Race saves weight and rolls faster on smoother hardpack, but Trail's added reinforcement under the tread and sidewall is the safer bet once you're into rockier doubletrack and technical singletrack.

Will the 29 x 2.4" Trail hold up on an e-bike?
Yes — that size and casing combo is E-Bike rated by Vittoria, built for the extra torque and weight an e-MTB puts through a tire.

Things to Know

What's actually different between Race and Trail casing?

Same Mezcal tread on both — the difference is protection. Race casing is a bare 120 TPI nylon layer built for speed with minimal reinforcement. Trail casing adds a reinforced layer under the tread and sidewall for real puncture resistance, at a modest weight penalty.

Is this a good tire for the GDMBR?

It's been our all-time favorite GDMBR tire for years running. It's a great match for dirt roads and chill singletrack — the kind of mixed terrain that makes up most of the Divide.

Do I need sealant to run these tubeless?

Yes. Both casings are TLR (tubeless-ready), meaning the bead and casing are built for a tubeless setup, but you still need sealant injected before riding — the tire itself doesn't hold air without it. We stock tubeless sealant and valve cores if you need to complete the setup.
